This course is designed for aspiring and professional hair stylists who want to master the art of period era hair cutting and styling specifically tailored for film and TV. 

We have the amazingly talented India Chadwick coming in to teach, she is a highly skilled master barber with a wealth of knowledge and experience in global barbershops as well as Film, Tv and Theatre. She has contributed to award winning  hair and makeup teams including the BAFTA award winning show "Small Axe". Her work extends to Hollywood actors and numerous West End Theatre Productions where she expertly cuts wigs and maintains continuity cuts for cast. With a versatile and impressive portfolio, India's expertise shines through in every project she undertakes.

Participants will learn the intricacies of various historical hair styles, continuity cutting, and the techniques required to work with different hair types and lengths to achieve authentic period looks.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  2. Develop skills in continuity cutting to maintain consistent hair styles throughout film and TV productions.
  3. Adapt techniques to suit different hair types and lengths while achieving the desired shape and style.

  • Overview of historical hair styles from different eras (Victorian, Edwardian, Roaring Twenties, 1950s, etc.)
  • Understanding the cultural and social significance of hairstyles in different periods
  • Analysis of famous film and TV examples

          Tools and Products for Period Styling

  • Essential tools for period hair styling (combs, brushes, curling irons, etc.)
  • Hair products for achieving authentic looks (pomades, sprays, gels)
  • Proper maintenance and care of tools and products

          Techniques for Different Hair Types and Lengths

  • Identifying and working with various hair types (straight, wavy, curly, coiled)
  • Adapting cutting and styling techniques for short, medium, and long hair
  • Layering, texturizing, and shaping hair to achieve period-specific styles

          Continuity Cutting for Film and TV

  • Importance of continuity in film and TV production
  • Techniques for maintaining consistent hair styles throughout shooting
  • Working with wigs and hairpieces to ensure continuity
